Marcio Mascarenhas was the first to speak about his work, after his art is a deep reflection of concepts such as gender, identity and race drawing on inspirations from philosophy and cultural studies . To me the body of work that interested me the most was "The bodies I live in"
Engaged in a network of disciplines and power structures the body is an instrument that reflects society. The Bodies I Live In is inspired by the human form as a fragment of culture, where the performance of gender, nationality and race takes place, defining identities.
In a dialogue between portrait photography, contemporary dance and sculpture, the work brings to the gallery the opportunity to debate about the formation of the subject through the interaction of the self with the other. The presentation refers to cubism, showing on the same plane different perspectives from the body, relating to the concept of multiple selves inhabiting the same subject.
